College Football: Week 10

I wanted to start off this week’s post with a look at the BCS top 10. Did you think Oregon and Auburn would be the top 2 teams? Maybe. Did you think TCU and Boise State would be in the Top 4? Perhaps. What about Utah in the top 5? No way. Here is a quick look at the top 10 and the games of the week:

1. Oregon- Great offense with a play making defense. Can they finish out the Pac 10 season undefeated?
2. Auburn- Tough road so far, with Alabama waiting. Cam Newton is the Heisman front runner.
3. TCU- Still “under the radar”, but features a VERY good defense.
4. Boise State- Not a great schedule, still not a lot of respect. I wouldn’t wanna face them though.
5. Utah- Test of the year this weekend against TCU.
6. Alabama- Still in the race for the BCS championship. Just win baby, or something.
7. Nebraska- Man, that loss to Texas sure does look really bad now.
8. Oklahoma- Top 10 team, and that’s about it. Has a chance to win Big 12 still.
9. Wisconsin- Tough tough team. They always play well in bowls, and I love the physical style.
10. LSU- We’re still here! Maybe 2 more losses coming, but don’t count out crazy Les Miles.

#21 Baylor vs. #17 Oklahoma State– One of the great stories of the 2010 season are the Baylor Bears. Robert Griffin is a legitimate Heisman contender and his offense is hard to slow down. Just ask Texas. Baylor beat Texas for the first time in 100 years last week (seemed like it) and looks to strengthen it’s choke hold on the Big 12 South this weekend. The Cowboys had a tough win against feisty Kansas State, but gets All American WR Justin Blackmon back from his suspension. Look for a high scoring game, with the time with the ball last playing for the win.
My Pick: Oklahoma State 40 Baylor 37
What Really Happened: It wasn’t this close, but Okie State won 55-28

#6 Alabama @ #10 LSU– Definitely the best matchups of one loss teams. Alabama is still in the BCS title hunt, but they have to keep winning. LSU has a VERY unlikely chance of winning it all, but the SEC championship is still within reach. Alabama has a wealth of riches at RB, but seems to have forgotten how to use it lately. LSU has a punishing D that will attack and put pressure on Greg McElroy. Will probably end of being high scoring, but give me a close slugfest. LSU’s QB problems will continue.
My Pick: Alabama 23 LSU 17
What Really Happened: LSU 24 Alabama 21- Close on score, wrong on winning team. Impressive for Miles.

#3 TCU @ #5 Utah– Game of the week? The year? Hmm, maybe not, but these teams have been dominating opponents so far this season. This has been a good rivalry in the past few years, and promises to be entertaining. The TCU defense is GREAT, AMAZING, REALLY GOOD. Whatever you want to say. They are the #1 Total Defense leader (217 yds allowed per game) and the #1 Scoring Defense (8.67 points per game), that is unbelievable. Utah comes in with the #21 ranked offense in the nation but the #3 ranked in scoring. Something will have to give. Look for TCU to dominate on the ground with Andy Dalton making plays through the air. The Utah turnovers will be costly at the wrong times.
My Pick: TCU 33 Utah 27
What Really Happened: Domination. TCU 47 Utah 7

Washington @ #1 Oregon– This won’t be a game. Remember that time Jake Locker was the potential “#1 pick in the NFL draft”? Well, he is awful, and won’t be playing this week. It will be a long night for the Huskies. LaMichael James and the Ducks offense might put up 50+ points. The only thing I want to see will be what uniforms they choose to wear.
My Pick: Oregon 49 Washington 20
What Really Happened: Oregon 53 Washington 16- Close on score, but it was even worse than this.

Upset Pick of the Week: Purdue 27 Wisconsin 24- No way the Boilermakers can win..right?
What Really Happened: Wisconsin laughed at my pick, won 34-13

Game NOBODY Cares About: Kutztown 35 Bloomsburg 31- BIG D2 showdown on Saturday, but no one cares.
What Really Happened: Bloomsburg 61 Kutztown 35- Apparently they don’t play defense in D3.
