College Football: Week 4

Well the JWSB finshed 6-3 last week, missing the “upset pick of the week” as well as the “game no one cares about” picks. Hmm, maybe I should count that as a win since no one cares about it. Anyway, Arizona was impressive in their win over top 10 Iowa, and Oklahoma and Texas survived tough opponents, the Longhorns winning on the road in Lubbock. This week we have a few good games that will have huge implications in conference races.

Miami @ Pitt– This game looked like it could be a top 15 matchup at the beginning of the year, but both teams have had some heart breaking losses so far this season. Miami will look to rebound after losing to Ohio State while Pitt will try and get back on the right track after an opening week loss to Utah. Keep an eye on Dion Lewis against an athletic Miami defensive unit. This should be a close one for 3 quarters with the Hurricanes pulling away late.
My Pick: Miami 33 Pitt 20

Alabama @ Arkansas– Probably the marquee matchup of Week 4. Alabama is back to full strength after adding the suspended Marcell Dareus and injured Heisman winner Mark Ingram. After demolishing Duke last week, Alabama looks to defend their SEC title against up start Arkansas. The Razorbacks are lead by strong armed Ryan Mallett and a high scoring offense. After getting his first road win last week, Mallett will look to upset the Crimson Tide at home. I am going back in forth on this game. I could easily see Arkansas getting punched in the mouth early and folding, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they keep it close throughout. This SHOULD be a fun one to watch.
My Pick: Arkansas 31 Alabama 30 (UPSET SPECIAL!!!)

Stanford @ Notre Dame– This was a ? kind of season for a lot of Notre Dame backers. Brian Kelly was bringing in a new regime to South Bend, and expectations were rather high for a new coach. 2 losses later and Domer fans are thinking “here we go again”. A win over Stanford would be a HUGE boost to Kelly and his team. Stanford has quietly positioned themselves in the top 20 and is looking for its first signature win of the season. Look for a high scoring game lead by 2 talented QB’s, Stanford’s Andrew Luck and Notre Dame’s Dane Crist.
My Pick: Stanford 40 Notre Dame 30

South Carolina @ Auburn– Boy, it seems like every game in the SEC is tough. Both teams are coming in with undefeated records and a surprising shot at a conference title, perhaps a BCS berth. Auburn is lead by the talented and electrifying QB Cam Newton. Newton lead Blinn JC to a national title last year and is hoping to do the same for Auburn. South Carolina features a talented offense and physical defense, and with the emergence of freshman running back Marcus Lattimore, proves that it can have a strong run game. Look for a back and forth game, with Auburn prevailing.
My Pick: Auburn 27 South Carolina 23

Oregon State @ Boise State– Maybe the last real test for Boise the rest of the season. The Broncos have been impressive so far this season, but their only signature win has come against a not so good Virginia Tech team. Oregon State has already lost to perennial non BCS power TCU, but looks to play spoiler against the fast paced Boise team. I am making this my 2nd upset of the day.
My Pick: Oregon State 34 Boise State 31

Upset Pick of the Week: I have already made 2, come ON!
