College Football: Week 2

Well, its the start of Week 2 of college football. Last week I was 5-4 on my picks, not great, but I was VERY close at having a much better record. Anyway, this week is a HUGE week in college football. It really is amazing that there are so many great games so early in the season. Here are the ones we will keep our eyes on:

Mississippi State vs. Auburn– Last week I got to see a little bit of Cam Newton’s debut with Auburn. He was phenomenal. I am excited to see what he can do this week. Auburn seems to be a VERY popular “dark horse” candidate this season, with some saying a possible SEC championship. Mississippi State is a team on the rise with Head Coach Dan Mullen. Look for the cowbells to be rockin in Starkville, but Cam Newton and the Auburn O will be too much.
My Pick: Auburn 31 Mississippi State 20

Georgia @ South Carolina– The Gamecocks had an impressive Week 1 showing and will look to take advantage of a Georgia team who is missing their best player, WR A.J. Green. The Gamecock offense showed signs of life last week, and will look to open SEC play on the right foot. Look for a close game coming down to the wire.
My Pick: South Carolina 27 Georgia 24

Oklahoma vs. Florida State– I just hope this is a good game. 2 of my friends will be in the crowd, one a casual observer and one a die hard Seminole fan. I know one will be happy. Oklahoma is coming off a VERY close game against Utah State, and hopes that it was a small stumble on the road to greater things. Demarco Murray looked good last week, but QB Landry Jones had some costly mistakes that kept Utah St. in the game. If they do that against the Seminoles, it will be a long day. Florida State looks to get its first signature win under new head coach Jimbo Fisher. It should be a high scoring game, and look for Florida State to end one of the nations longest home winning streaks.
My Pick: Florida State 33 Oklahoma 30

Miami @ Ohio State– Probably the marquee matchup of the week. Both teams are capable of running the table and making it to the National Championship game. Ohio State features Terrelle Pryor and DE Cameron Heyward. Miami seems to have some of their swagger back lead by QB Jacory Harris and WR Leonard Hankerson. Look for another close game, with both Heisman hopeful QB’s keeping their teams in it.
My Pick: Ohio State 27 Miami 23

Penn State @ Alabama– A pretty good “old school” rivalry. JoePa and the Nittany Lions get a chance to knock off the defending national champs in their home stadium. One key question will be the play of true Freshman QB Robert Bolden. He has certainly never played in front of 90k+ SEC fans. It will be a tough first road game. Alabama will be without Heisman winner Mark Ingram, but “backup” Trent Richardson will carry the load just fine. Watch the Alabama D control the game, even though they are still working in a few new starters.
My Pick: Alabama 30 Penn State 20

Oregon @ Tennessee– The only thing I am interested in is to see if Oregon can play as well as they did last week. Tennessee is certainly better than New Mexico, but Oregon seems to be a team on a mission. The goal this week is 50 points.
My Pick: Oregon 31 Tennessee 17

Upset Pick of the Week: South Florida 27 Florida 25– The troubles of last week improve, but the Gators suffer a loss to instate foe USF.
