The Race is On.

Couple of quick thoughts on the 09 MLB season so far…it’s starting to get good.

1. The Rangers are still in it: I have to be honest, I am a pre-season/early season pessimist, especially when it comes to Texas Rangers baseball. They haven’t been to the post season since 1999, which isn’t THAT long of a drought, but it seemed like it would never happen again. The Rangers started the season hot and have kept up with the L.A. Angels of Anaheim California even past the All Star break. Don’t get too ahead of yourself, but the Rangers and Angels still play 7 more times in the regular season. The West isn’t over yet. And the Wild Card? Rangers are 1.5 games out right now.

2. Cliff Lee is C.C. 2 (or early season Zach Greinke): Cliff Lee is superman. Just ask anyone who is a Phillies fan. Since becoming a Phil at the trade deadline, Lee is 5-0 with a 0.68 ERA. I would say that is pretty darn good. The Phillies seem to be on their way to winning the NL East with a 7 game lead on the Braves and Marlins. If Cole Hamels can get back on track, watch the Phillies make a run at a repeat.

3. The Chicago Cubs: Go ahead and make that 101 years without a World Series title.

4. The NL Wild Wild West: Remember when EVERYONE was saying that the Dodgers were easily going to win the West? Most experts thought they were the all season long favorites to at least play in the World Series, well, things are getting interesting. The Rockies were 15.5 games behind the Dodgers on June 3rd this year. Now, with a win tonight against the Dodgers, they could be ONE game back. Amazing. This is all too familiar with a few years back. Can they keep it up? Don’t be surprised.

5. My Picks Right Now: Well, I am usually WAY off on these things and making a pick now seems a bit easy, but I am going to do it anyway. In the worlds most boring pick ever, I think we will see the Yankees take on the Cardinals in this years Fall Classic. Believe me, this hurts. I would much rather see Texas play Colorado.
