I must confess, I am an Olympics fan. I have seen on a lot of message boards and heard from people that they aren’t going to watch the Olympics. WHAT? I think the games are a chance to see some of the world’s GREATEST athletes compete against each other at the highest level. Another confession, I have not watched a single event in this years games from Beijing. Hmm..”but Jeff, I thought you said you were a fan.” Well, I am, but until Tuesday I am without cable television. I have watched some highlights online and have read the stories, but I have not been able to watch anything as it is happening.

To me, the most intriguing story in this year’s games is Michael Phelps. He is trying to win 8 gold medals this year to add to his already gaudy collection of 6 gold medals. As of today, Phelps has already won two gold medals, bringing his overall Olympic Medal count to 10. Amazing.

The other big storyline in Beijing is the “Redeem Team” (corny nickhame). The US Men’s Basketball team has not fared too well in the past few international events. Back in 2002 they lost in the World Championships and 2004 they finished with the Bronze medal. This years team is composed of some of the brightest NBA stars including: Kobe Bryant, Lebron James and Chris Paul. They handled an experienced Chinese team in their first game, and have Angola next. Will they live up to their corny nickname and redeem themselves?

Hey Jeff, why is it that just about every swimming race that I watch sets a new world record? You would think that wouldn’t happen every time, no?

Man I know. EVERY race has set a new WR it seems. Perhaps it has something to do with adrenaline and being pumped up for the event. I have no idea. Its been fun to watch though.
